Activists and families of victims of rights violations, led by Hustisya, gather at the University of the Philippines Oblation Plaza in Quezon City on Aug. 24 2024 to pay tribute to Benito Tiamzon, Wilma Austria-Tiamzon, and Concha Araneta-Bocala. Bocala, a known top rebel leader in Western Visayas, was killed in an encounter with soldiers in Iloilo on August 6, according to reports. The Tiamzons died in Catbalogan, Samar on Aug. 21, 2023. Accounts of their deaths were conflicting, with their comrades in the Communist Party of the Philippines claiming that they were tortured to death by the military following their capture while another version said that they died in a clash with government troops.
