Mandaue mayor hits suspension order

CEBU CITY — Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes is facing a one-year suspension without pay after the Office of the Ombudsman found him guilty of grave misconduct and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.

The decision, handed down on Aug. 12, 2024, stemmed from a complaint pertaining to the appointment of Camilo Basaca as the officer in charge of the City Social Welfare Services (CSWS) in 2022.
