WITH the recent brouhaha on the reported escape of deposed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, aka Guo Hua Ping, the sights of Filipinos were once again focused on the inefficiencies of the Bureau of Immigration (BI). The BI spokesman reported that on July 16, Guo traveled to Malaysia and then arrived in Indonesia from Singapore on August 18. The BI on Tuesday confirmed that Guo is currently in Indonesia. According to the BI, this information was sourced from their foreign counterparts helping them monitor the movement of Guo.

However, the Filipino public was outraged by the inefficiency of the authorities, especially the BI, for allowing the escape of such a publicized individual who could actually be a foreign infiltrator of our political system. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was also having none of it and made it clear that "heads will roll" as he had already directed a full-scale investigation of the matter.
