MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday that it was closely monitoring a tropical storm outside the country's area of responsibility. Its international name is "Shanshan."

The tropical storm, estimated some 2, 140 kilometers east of Central Luzon,is not expected to directly affect the archipelago in the coming days, weather specialist Benison Estareja said.
