IN the near future, perhaps within the next few weeks, the buzz phrase "sustainable aviation fuel," or SAF, is going to make an appearance in headlines on the business pages, as the Department of Energy (DoE) is currently putting the final touches on a "roadmap" for SAF development here in the Philippines. That was actually supposed to be finished last month, but the normal deviation from announced schedules for any sort of government work combined with the horrible complexity of the international framework underpinning the proposed SAF policy has delayed it. However, the outcomes will be so inconsequential that there is no real reason to be frustrated by slow progress toward them.
