India doctors urge stoppage of services

NEW DELHI — The Indian Medical Association, the country's biggest group of medics, has called for a 'nationwide withdrawal of services' for 24 hours starting Saturday, with the suspension of all non-essential and medical procedures at private hospitals.

Doctors also said they would intensify nationwide protests and strikes after the rape and murder of a colleague, a brutal killing that has sparked outrage on the chronic issue of violence against women.
