THE British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP) expressed optimism about further expanding the country's workforce, citing the third State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. noting the significance of the Filipinos' potential for economic growth. BCCP Executive Director/Trustee Chris Nelson noted the efforts on strengthening the country's talent pool, cybersecurity, and safeguarding transactions within the digital economy and E-commerce. 'I think the Philippine talent pool is very much appreciated. However, it's competing in a tough world and needs to strengthen. In that context, I'll make references to President Marcos' SONA speech, where he said the need to create specific courses. He mentioned particularly cybersecurity and creative industries.' President Marcos emphasized the need to address the 'classroom' and 'digital gap,' citing efforts to adopt digital and advanced learning technologies, such as artificial intelligence. He added, 'Highly technical and professional-level training courses will soon be launched, notably in cybersecurity and the creative industries.' The British Chamber consistently supports key legislative priorities on cybersecurity, including the Cybersecurity Act and the recently passed Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act to establish a stronger financial system to safeguard against cyberthreats that encourage investors' trust and confidence in the country.
