North Korean authorities also issued a warning over "fierce heat" with temperatures of up to 37 degrees Celsius (99 degrees Fahrenheit), as Agence France-Presse (AFP) images showed residents in the capital Pyongyang using umbrellas and portable fans to keep cool.
