ARTIFICIAL intelligence, or AI, has been impacting elections in recently conducted elections around the world. It is anticipated that the technology will also influence the midterm elections and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) elections. Both will take place on the same day, May 12, 2025.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia has said that he would push for a ban on the use of deepfakes and AI in campaign materials in the coming midterm polls, saying that there should be truthful campaigning.
