Firefighters continued battling a fast-moving wildfire near Athens on Monday, August 12, as the flames continued their march towards the Greek capital.
In Vrilissia, firefighters and locals rushed to assist with evacuations as the fire took over the suburb 10 km (6 miles) from Greece's capital.
The wildfire had started Sunday and was being fueled by strong winds, was spreading to the edge of the Greek capital, torching trees, houses, and cars, and forcing the evacuation of several hospitals and numerous towns and villages, Greek authorities said.
