I WROTE last week that Sen. Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III has already served for more than 12 consecutive years in the Senate and is still seated as an incumbent senator to this date.

Pimentel was successively elected senator in the 2007, 2013 and 2019 national elections. Based on the records of the Senate of the Philippines, he has served these three terms without any voluntary or involuntary interruption. His public service as a senator has been continuous and uninterrupted under existing laws and jurisprudence. He first served in the 15th Congress in August 2011 after being declared by the Senate Electoral Tribunal as the duly elected 12th winning senator in the 2007 elections. He continued to serve in the 16th Congress when he again won a seat in 2013 and even served as the Senate president from 2016 to 2018. In 2019, he was again elected as senator with a term supposedly ending on June 30, 2025.
