AS a member of the faculty of a prestigious state university, I should be proud of the significantly high number of students who graduated with Latin honors, as summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude.

However, the educator in me grapples with the painful realization that the inflation of Latin honors is not a good sign but is, in fact, undeniable evidence of the failure of the educational system to adjust its standards to truly reflect excellence in the face of modern educational technologies.
