China blasts Japan over recent 'smear attacks'

(UPDATE) BEIJING — China has expressed to Japan its strong dissatisfaction over what it called 'smear attacks' against Beijing during recent high-level meetings with some of Tokyo's important allies, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the ministry said Liu Jinsong, director-general of its Asian affairs department, conveyed solemn representations and serious concern at a Monday meeting with Akira Yokochi, deputy chief of mission at the Japanese Embassy.
