Breaking the silence on sexual abuse

SEXUAL abuse is an abomination. Yet, despite the existence of laws penalizing such abuse that comes in many different forms, it continues to exist in our midst. Even affluent societies with highly educated and informed citizens have not been able to eradicate the scourge of sexual violence.

The thing with sexual abuse is that its victims often feel so much shame that they keep silent about their ordeal. They blame themselves. Some victims even think that being sexually assaulted or exploited is normal or commonplace, not a crime to report to authorities.
