1 killed, 4 missing as heavy rains pummel Japan

TOKYO — At least one person was killed and four were missing after the downpours in Yamagata and Akita prefectures on the main island of Honshu in the northern part of Japan, officials and media reports said Friday.

Thousands were also evacuated as rivers burst their banks, washing away bridges and cars.
