THE Senate, under its new president Francis Escudero, has declared its support for the legislative program of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. while proclaiming its "independence" as a mature deliberative chamber of Congress. It will not be a rubber stamp to the Marcos administration, Escudero said.

This position is not new, but its firm articulation is. It should produce useful consequences.
