"MISEDUCATION: The Failed System of Philippine Education" is the title of the Education Commission 2 (EdCom 2) year one report. The report encapsulates what it unequivocally admits is an education crisis.

In 1959, historian Renato Constantino wrote a book, "The Miseducation of the Filipinos," first published in 1966 by Malaya Books. The essay critiques the establishment of the Philippine public education system as an American colonial project, and how it fails to genuinely educate us Filipinos about basic social ills, which, in turn, makes us oblivious to our collective welfare as a people. In his essay, he argues that the educational system is geared toward subjugating the minds of Filipinos for colonial mentality while promoting passivity to inhibit the contestation of American hegemony in the Philippines.
