CEBU CITY — The National Bureau of Investigation Central Visayas (NBI 7) apprehended two women suspected of illegally producing and selling fake Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Tax Identification Number (TIN) cards in Talisay City, Cebu.
Renan Oliva, NBI Region 7 regional director, reported the confiscation of various fake TIN cards from Jerissa Aricuatro, also known as 'Yuri Chan,' on July 17.
The operation was conducted following a request from the BIR in Talisay City to investigate the illegal creation and distribution of government IDs, including BIR TIN cards.
The counterfeit TIN cards were reportedly sold online for P180 each.
Aricuatro confessed that she was merely a reseller, obtaining the fake IDs from an individual she referred to as 'printer.'
After Aricuatro's arrest, a follow-up operation was initiated in Barangay Lagtas, Talisay City, which led to the capture of the person known as 'printer,' who was later identified as Geraldine Lomongo Tausa.
NBI operatives seized 240 fake BIR TIN cards, 250 blank PhilHealth cards, a laptop and a printer from Tausa.
The NBI is preparing criminal charges against the two suspects for their illegal activity.
