SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — One person died, two others are missing and affected families were taken to different evacuation centers in La Union province on Thursday, July 25, due to the nonstop rains spawned by Typhoon Carina.As of 5 p.m. on July 25, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that an 11-year-old boy died after he was hit by a fallen tree in Barangay Tammocalao in Bacnotan town.Those who are missing were a 48-year-old woman from Barangay Urayong in Bauang town, and a 61-year-old man from Barangay Halog East in Tubao town. They were both swept by strong flood currents.The PDRRMO report also indicated that a total of 9,923 families consisting of 37,558 individuals in 113 villages in 14 La Union towns and San Fernando City were affected by the typhoon.The towns include Bacnotan, Balaoan, Bangar, Luna, San Juan, Sudipen, Agoo, Aringay, Bagulin, Bauang, Caba, Naguilian, Pugo, and Tubao.The PDRRMO also reported that 31 road sections were flooded in the towns of Bagulin, Caba, Naguilian, and Bauang, and San Fernando City.Four of them are not yet passable as of Thursday but the rest of the roads have already been opened to all types of vehicles,At least 32 villages in the towns of Bagulin, Agoo, Santol, Caba, and Sudipen, and San Fernando City experienced power interruption.The PDRRMO said that of the 19 houses damaged in the towns of Balaoan, Luna, Agoo, Aringay, Bagulin, Bauang and Naguilian. Two of them were totally destroyed.At 6 p.m. Thursday, the province was placed under red rainfall warning, which means that the province may continue to experience severe rains, flooding, and landslides in flood- and landslide-prone areas.
