'Carina' intensifies, dumps rains with gusty winds in Metro Manila, parts of Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon 'Carina' has intensified further as it continues to dump rains with gusty winds over areas in extreme Northern Luzon where storm alerts have since been raised, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Wednesday.

Moving northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour, the typhoon has been enhancing the southwest monsoon locally known as 'habagat,' the cause of moderate to intense rainfall in many areas, especially in the western portion of Luzon, including Metro Manila, Pagasa said in its 5 a.m. bulletin said.
