GENEVA, Switzerland — Decisions political leaders take this year will be decisive whether a target to end the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) as a public health threat by 2030 can be reached, the United Nations said on Monday.
Figures from 2023 show a global improvement in the number of new infections, the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive patients and a decrease in the number of fatalities, but the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (Unaids) warned that such progress remains fragile.
