THIS is not to be defensive, considering that the Philippines has been ranked second to the worst country in terms of providing workers a life-work balance. With a score of 27.46 out of a possible 100, we placed 59th, and the only country that scored worse was Nigeria.

But let me just say not only that the concept of life-work balance — as defined by Remote, an international recruitment and placement firm that conducted the rankings — is Western and alien to our ordinary experiences. There is also a problem in how Remote used it.
