CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The central town of Pinamalayan in the second district of the province has recommended the declaration of state of calamity after several barangay (villages) were flooded due to incessant rains since Wednesday, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said.
In a telephone interview, MDRRMO officer Marlo Rosales said that the disaster council recommended to the Sangguniang Bayan (Municipal Council) the declaration of a state of calamity as 29 villages were submerged in floodwaters after the heavy rains brought by a low pressure area and southwest monsoon or habagat.
