TROPICAL Storm Carina slightly intensified and is expected to reach typhoon category on Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Sunday.

Weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said that Carina was last spotted past 4 a.m. at 490 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora. It was moving at the speed 10 kilometers per hour (kph), with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
