Bataan beset by red tide

SAMAL, Bataan — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Luzon (BFAR-3) on Wednesday night issued an advisory telling people to refrain from gathering, selling, and eating all types of shellfishes and 'alamang' (shrimp paste) caught along the coastal waters of Bataan.

Based on the laboratory examination conducted by the BFAR-3, sea water samples collected from the coastal waters in the towns of Orani, Hermosa, Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Samal, Abucay and Balanga City are positive of gymnodinium catenatum, a toxic microorganism that causes paralytic shellfish poison.
