AS the curtains of the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium closed last July 6, the Lasallian Youth Orchestra (LYO) had just celebrated its fifteenth anniversary with a night of harmony and melody with Grandioso: Symphonic Portraits.
With the guidance of its esteemed conductor, Maestro German De Ramos Jr. MM, LYO delivered a flurry of medleys from all walks of life. Beginning with a tug at local roots through an Overture of Philippine Folk Songs, followed by a dive into the fantastical worlds of Genshin Impact and Studio Ghibli, the performance made a return to the classical with the La Gazza Ladra Overture. After an intermission where the Maestro received a surprise birthday greeting from the orchestra, LYO graced the night with a chilling rendition of the Phantom of the Opera Medley before honoring famed composer John Williams with his soundtrack highlights and giving the audience an urge to dance with the Latin Fiesta.
