AT a time when access to affordable health care is crucial, especially amid a pandemic, the revelations of corruption and mismanagement within the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) are particularly troubling. The diversion of funds intended for health care services means that many Filipinos may be deprived of vital medical assistance and support, leading to dire consequences for their health and well-being.

PhilHealth funds are people's money. Not necessarily the same as taxes collected, but I am directly and bluntly stating that PhilHealth funds are our money. 'Contributions' are automatically deducted from everyone's paycheck, 5 percent of your salary to be exact, starting in 2024. And this is the third increase in contributions.
