THE Philippines is home to a diverse and vibrant culinary scene, with a wide array of restaurants, cafés and markets serving up delicious and affordable local and international cuisine. You can join local tours to discover the country's unique culture and traditions. Retirees will delight in handicrafts and fashion items with imaginative designs and world-class craftsmanship. There is a range of recreational activities such as golfing, diving and hiking, or on the water — everything you can imagine. Or, for the less mobile, chess is widely played, as are card games, checkers, mahjong and sungka (a traditional Filipino game played with a carved wooden board, and shells or seeds). While just chatting together over a coffee or San Mig (the iconic, 130-year-old beer) that lets you know this is the place to be. The Philippines is a country whose unique culture brings a lilt to life.
