Petro Gazz beats Zus Coffee for first win in PVL

MANILA, Philippines — The Petro Gazz Angels overpowered the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 25-16, 25-21, 25-21, to take their first victory in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Thursday, July 18.
Brooke Van Sickle, who was voted as Player of the Game, led the Angels with 22 points on 18 attacks, three aces, and a block, along with 11 excellent digs and six excellent receptions.
In the third set, Petro Gazz had a comfortable 18-7 lead when Zus Coffee responded with an 8-0 run, capped by Dolly Versoza's smart off-speed hit to cut the Angels' lead down to three, 18-15.
Both teams then traded points and Van Sickle scored back-to-back points to give her squad a 24-17 lead.
Zus Coffee tried to rally with a 4-0 run courtesy of Asaka Tamaru's kills, but it was all for naught as Chie Saet made a crafty one-two play to end the match with a 25-21 third set victory.
Tamaru, the sole double-digit scorer for Zus Coffee, led the Thunderbelles with 17 points.
