ON July 16, 1990, at 4:26 p.m, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Northern and Central Luzon with Nueva Ecija as the epicenter, and the cities of Baguio, Cabanatuan and Dagupan as the most badly hit.

An estimated 1,621 people died, and P10-billion worth of properties were damaged.
