Maasin Church named natl shrine

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte — The Diocesan Shrine of the Our Lady of Assumption of the Diocese of Maasin here has been declared by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) as a national shrine.

The decision to elevate the Maasin Church as the first national shrine in Region 8 (Eastern Visayas) was made on the first day of the CBCP's 128th plenary assembly at Chai Conference Center in Cagayan de Oro City held last week, the CBCP News reported.
