SC rules on unjust prison claims

THE Supreme Court has ruled that prior conviction is required in compensation claims for unjust imprisonment.

In a decision penned by Associate Justice Maria Filomena Singh, the Supreme Court en banc upheld the Department of Justice (DoJ) Board of Claims' (Board) denial of the compensation claim of a certain Main Mohammad, who in 2017 was arrested, detained, and charged with piracy and two counts of murder after being identified as a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group.
