I AM in the US, and the main topic of news coverage as well as individual personal discussion is age — old age as represented by President Joe Biden. The US, like most First World societies, is an aging one. While the American obsession, with youth and being youthful in lifestyle, outlook, and of course, looks, has been paramount for centuries. The two candidates running for president and even the third candidate in the coming November elections are what can only be said to be old. Joe Biden is 81, Donald Trump is 78 and Robert Kennedy Jr. is also a septuagenarian. It may be said that they are the oldest presidential candidates in the race for some time. Joe Biden was the oldest when he ran and won four years ago.
People are living longer in developed countries so there are older populations. That is considered a plus for a society that has brought them to that point. In fact, there are amenities for seniors who are considered to have made their contribution to bring on development and well-being to the country.
