Vice President Sara Duterte confirms in an interview in Davao City on July 11, 2024 that she is skipping President Ferdinand Marcos Jr's State of the Nation Address on July 22 and instead will be presenting herself as the country's 'designated survivor.' Duterte's absence, the first in three years, reinforced her break from the UniTeam, which she and then senator Marcos campaigned for during the 2022 presidential elections. Before this, the vice president resigned as Education secretary following a falling out with first lady Liza Araneta Marcos who expressed her displeasure over Duterte's presence in an event where her father, the former president Rodrigo Duterte, criticized Marcos.
