Taiwan detects 36 Chinese aircraft around island

(UPDATE) TAIPEI — Taiwan's defense ministry said Friday it had detected 36 Chinese military aircraft encircling the island in the last 24 hours.

China claims self-ruled democratic Taiwan as part of its territory and has said it would never renounce the use of force to bring it under Beijing's control.
