MANILA, Philippines — Former Philippine men's basketball coach Rajko Toroman believes the two biggest reasons why Gilas is making heads turn in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament have something to do with size and system under coach Tim Cone.
The 69-year-old Toroman pointed out that the presence of 7-foot-3 young big man Kai Sotto, June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar and AJ Edu in this current program under Cone, makes Gilas a solid team because of its ability to defend bigger players as well as be able to control the boards.
