ABOUT half of the country's maritime training institutions (MTIs) have identified financial constraints as a major barrier to implementing distance learning methods for seafarers and other maritime professionals.

A study by the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) revealed that only 43 of the 87 Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) accredited MTIs across the country have incorporated distance learning into their programs.
