Rebel, soldier killed in Samar battles

A REBEL and a soldier were killed in two separate battles between remnants of a communist terrorist group (CTG) and government forces in the hinterlands of Northern Samar.

Capt. Jefferson Mariano, Public Affairs chief of the Philippine Army's 8th Infantry 'Stormtroopers' Division (8ID) based in Catbalogan City, Samar, said the encounter took place in Barangay Hitapian, Catubig, which is adjacent to Barangay Bagacay, Northern Samar, over the weekend.
