MANY good, peace-loving people are working toward a truce in the war in the Gaza Strip. These include Israelis, but they have failed so far to persuade Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or the leaders of Hamas to agree to a permanent ceasefire. Israel is determined to totally destroy Hamas — an impossible goal since killing every Hamas fighter could lead to more people joining the Palestinian militant group. In addition, Netanyahu is facing corruption allegations and seems to be prolonging the war to avoid the possibility of conviction.

The International Court of Justice warned of charges of genocide against Israel because of its mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, either by bombing or starving them. The International Criminal Court appears ready to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and three Hamas leaders.
