THE first time I drove through Antique was about two decades ago. A friend asked me to bring an antique aparador (cabinet) to her aunt in Iloilo, and we decided to take the long drive from Manila using the nautical highway. When we arrived in Caticlan after taking the four-hour roll on-roll off (RoRo) ferry from Mindoro, we had to decide: take the usual road to Iloilo via Aklan or go through the unfamiliar road via Antique. Being an adventurer, I chose the latter.

Driving through the roads of Antique for the first time, I was greeted by beautiful mountains on the left and the clear blue sea on the right. I wanted to stop and explore Antique, but my friend's aunt was waiting for her precious aparador.
