EVEN though God already mentioned in Malachi 2:16 that 'He hates divorce,' the Pharisees in Jesus' time wanted to test him on the subject. This confrontation is recorded in the 19th chapter of Matthew when they asked our Lord, 'Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for any cause?'
