TWO local government chief executives urged the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to assess the alternative sanitary landfills being offered by the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA), which said it will not renew the 25-year service contract for the operation of the Kalangitan Sanitary Landfill in Capas, Tarlac in October.
In a statement released last weekend, San Fernando City Mayor Vilma Caluag said the DENR should determine the capability and the capacity of the alternative landfills to process the waste collected from cities and municipalities in Central Luzon.
