Midyear and the world indeed is worse

First of two parts

BACK in January, I warned of a pretty bad world coming up ('An uncertain world in 2024,' TMT, January 6 and 13) and pretty bad it is proving to be. The good things didn't happen. The world will soon exceed its 1.5 degrees Celsius limit. Ukraine isn't winning the war, thanks to Republicans it's losing. Autocrats are rising. African wars continue. Hamas has kept fighting. AI is not controlled.
