China ready to block Taiwan independence

SINGAPORE — Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun on Sunday said China's armed forces are ready to 'forcefully' halt Taiwan's independence, but renewed its call for continuing talks with the United States.

This statement at an annual security forum in Singapore followed the first substantial face-to-face exchanges in 18 months between the two countries' defense chiefs.
