BY a vote of 131 in favor, 109 opposed and 20 abstentions, the House of Representatives approved on third and final reading the absolute divorce bill. It was a divided house, and as critics of the bill pointed out, a narrowly divided one as well.

Despite the closeness of the outcome, which is uncharacteristic of a House where the actual results of voting on bills are usually lopsided in favor of approval, this House is a lot more progressive in terms of social policies than we may have granted it. One other bill which strengthens this is when the House passed on second reading the bill authorizing the medical use of marijuana.
