NHCP unveils Hongkong and Shanghai Bank historical marker

THE National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) led by Executive Director Carminda Arevalo unveiled the historical marker, 'Gusali ng Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation,' on Monday.

The marker states: 'Gusali ng Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. Itinayo ang kasalukuyang kongkretong gusali na may limang palapag ayon sa disenyo ni G. H. Hayward at pamamahala ni Oscar G. Campbell, 1919-1922. Pinasinayaan sa pangunguna ng nanunungkulang Gobernador Heneral Charles E. Yeater upang magsilbing punong himpilan ng Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation sa Pilipinas, 1922. Inukupahan ang ibang mga palapag ng mga banyagang kumpanya tulad ng Smith Bell & Co. Ltd. at Sun Life Insurance of Canada. Nasunog noong ikalawang digmaang pandaigdig. Isinaayos, 1949-1950. Naging tanggapan ng William H. Quansha Law Office at ng Konsulado ng Britanya, 1946 hanggang dekada 1960. Naging pag-aari ng pamilya Siy at pinangalanang Hamilton Building matapos ilipat ng HSBC ang punong himpilan nito sa Lungsod ng Makati, 1971. Nabili at isinaayos ng Island Diamond Corporation, 2017.'
