Lawmaker denies govt officials stopped Maisug peace rally

MANILA, Philippines — Tingog Partylist Rep. Jude Acidre denied allegations that the Maisug rally in Tacloban scheduled last Saturday and rescheduled on Sunday, May 26, was purposely blocked, saying the rallyists canceled the event after they failed to mobilize support.

Former president Rodrigo Duterte accused government officials of stifling peaceful dissent.
