China holds 'intrusive patrol' at PH ecozone

(UPDATE) A CHINA Coast Guard (CCG) ship, considered the world's largest, conducted a brief 'intrusive patrol' into the Philippines' exclusive economic zone (EEZ) west of Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal) in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Based on monitoring by SeaLight, a maritime transparency project that monitors and reports activities in the South China Sea, the 165-meter CCG 5901 was accompanied by the 102-meter CCG 5203 for more than 24 hours or from May 23 to 24.

A China Coast Guard ship monitors a Philippine fisherman aboard his wooden boat during the distribution of fuel and food to fishers by the civilian-led mission Atin Ito (This Is Ours) Coalition, in the disputed South China Sea on May 16, 2024. A Philippine boat convoy bearing supplies for Filipino fishers said they were headed back to port May 16, ditching plans to sail to a Beijing-held reef off the Southeast Asian country after one of their boats was constantly shadowed by a Chinese vessel.
