EXTREME temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in April had a significant impact on billions of people in Asia. Rapid attribution analysis conducted by an international team of leading climate scientists from the World Weather Attribution group indicates that these extreme temperatures, which made life even tougher for impoverished individuals across Asia and displaced Palestinians in Gaza, were exacerbated by human-induced climate change.
Across Asia, severe heat waves were felt in April. South and Southeast Asian countries such as Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines experienced record-breaking temperatures. India reached a scorching high of 46 C. West Asia, including Palestine and Israel, saw temperatures surpassing 40 C. April was globally the hottest April on record, marking the 11th consecutive month of record-breaking heat.
