UN to decide on Palestine's membership bid

(UPDATE) UNITED NATIONS – The UN General Assembly is scheduled to vote Friday on a motion that would grant new 'rights and privileges' to Palestine and call on the Security Council to favorably reconsider its request to become the 194th member of the international body.

The United States had vetoed a widely supported resolution on April 18 that would have paved the way for full United Nations membership for Palestine, a goal that the latter had long sought, which Israel has worked to prevent.
